Portland only gets so many golden hours a year, and you should spend them several stories off the ground with a drink in your hand. This is the most complete rooftop list in the city: we cross-checked every “best rooftop” roundup out there — Eater, Portland Monthly, Willamette Week, Travel Portland, the beer blogs, Reddit — then verified each spot is actually still open, because half the internet's rooftop lists will cheerfully send you to a bar that died in 2023. The dead ones are in the RIP section, where they can't hurt you.

A sleek spaceship of a lounge atop the old Meier & Frank building with two outdoor decks — one hanging over Pioneer Courthouse Square, the other staring down the Willamette at Mt. Hood. This is where Portland goes when it wants to feel fancy at sunset.
Order: Pan-Asian everything — dim sum, sushi, kushiyaki — and the biggest sake list in the city.
Know before you go: Reserve for dinner; the terrace bar seats are walk-up if you time it right. Happy hour is the budget move.

Know before you go: Non-guests welcome. Occasionally bought out for private events, so have a backup on big nights.

Lower buildings, better sunsets — the east side points its decks straight at the downtown skyline and the West Hills.

Know before you go: Roof is heated in the cold months — a legit winter rooftop, rare in this town.

Highest bar in PortlandLegendary happy hourYear-roundNot open-air — just the single highest drink you can hold in this city. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the 30th floor of Big Pink with Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens lined up like a postcard. The sunset happy hour in the lounge is a Portland institution.
Order: Steak, sushi, and a famously good lounge happy hour.
Know before you go: Window tables book out — reserve, or roll first-come into the lounge. Slightly dressier than average Portland (so, a clean flannel).
15Bellpine at The Ritz-Carlton

Know before you go: Bring a credit card with self-esteem. Reservations essentially required.
16High Horse

🎈 Throwing a party?
DeSoto Rooftop Terrace (720 NW Davis St) is a gorgeous loft-style roof over the North Park Blocks — but it's a private-event venue, not a walk-in bar. Book it for the birthday; don't show up thirsty on a Tuesday.

Interurban (N Mississippi)
14 years of that glorious multi-level deck and winter fire pits — closed January 2026. Pour one out.
Lolo Pass roof deck (E Burnside)
The hostel-hotel's 5th-floor public roof is gone — the building was sold and converted to a treatment facility.
Ecliptic Brewing (N Cook)
John Harris's brewery and patio closed in late 2023; Von Ebert took over the building.
Altabira City Tavern (Lloyd)
A 2020 COVID casualty — but its 6th-floor space lives on as Metropolitan Tavern (see above).
Teote Mezcaleria (NE Alberta)

What's the best rooftop bar in Portland?
Departure, atop The Nines downtown, is the most consistently ranked rooftop in the city — two decks over Pioneer Courthouse Square and the Willamette with pan-Asian food and the biggest sake list around. Xport Bar & Lounge at The Porter is the highest true rooftop at 16 floors, and Revolution Hall's roof deck is the free, no-ticket-needed favorite on the east side.
Are there rooftop bars in Portland open in winter?
Several stay open year-round with heaters or enclosed sections: Departure, Xport, Jackie's, Radio Room, and Portland City Grill (glass-enclosed on the 30th floor of Big Pink) all run through the cold months. Seasonal roofs like 10 Barrel's, the Roof Deck at Revolution Hall, and Migration Brewing's penthouse typically close for winter.
Can anyone go to a rooftop bar in Portland, or do you need to be a hotel guest?
Nearly every rooftop on this list is open to the public, not just hotel guests — Departure, Xport, Tope, and Bellpine at the Ritz-Carlton all welcome walk-ins or reservations from anyone. DeSoto Rooftop Terrace is the one exception: it's a private-event venue only, not a walk-in bar.
